Keystone species
Keystone species get their name from playing a role similar to the keystone of an arch. Without the keystone, the rest of the ecosystem or arch would collapse, making their role a crucial one. Because of their high level of interactions with so many other species, keystone species have a disproportionally large affect on their ecosystem relative to their prevalence in that habitat.
While all of my courses have been instrumental in helping shape my educational practice, two courses stand out above the rest. While the scope of these two courses was no greater than the others that I completed through the MET, they had a disproportionally large affect on me, each in their own unique way. ETEC 520 - Planning and Managing Learning Technologies in Higher Education made me, for the first time ever, consider the option of working at the Ministry level and/or completing a PhD. It opened my eyes to a side of education I hadn't yet put much thought or consideration into, and has provided me with an alternate pathway to take in my educational career. ETEC 521 - Indigeneity, Technology and Education on other other hand has re-enforced the importance of traditional knowledge and approaching education in a holistic manner. Of all the courses, it has probably had the greatest immediate influence on my own educational practice.
